Cal Poly Supermileage Vehicle Team

The Cal Poly Mechanical Engineering department is our primary sponsor, and provides us not only with resources to build and maintain our vehicle, but shop access for manufactuing custom parts and hangar space for storing our car and tools and hosting our weekend work sessions. We are officially an IRA (Instructionally Related Activity) club with the Mechanical Engineering Department (not an ASI club).

Edwards Air Force Base has been a very generous sponsor of the Supermileage club, providing us with much-needed financial assistance. Their generosity has helped us ensure that we are a financially stable club with the funds necessary for ongoing improvement and maintenance of our award-winning vehicle.

Lewcott Corporation is a specialty chemical and materials technology company whose product lines encompass applications from Indy race cars to healthcare to rocket nozzles and beyond. Lewcott donated the prepreg carbon fiber cloth that was used in the layups for the prototype vehicle run in the 2006-2009 competitions.

Technology Marketing, Inc. is a distribution, sales and marketing, and manufacturing company. They serve the aerospace and other select fiber reinforced composites manufuring industry segments. They offer a wide range of high quality materials and accessories specifically tuned to the needs of composites manufacturers serving the aerospace, construction, automotive, marine, sporting goods, and kindred industries where lightweight structures require high strength and stiffness. TMI provided mold making and layup supplies used to build the prototype vehicle run in the 2006-2009 competitions.

C&D is an aerospace company specializing in air fabricating products such as aircraft interior panels, seats and bulkheads. C&D provided the team with technical support and expertise in the composite layup process for the 2006-2009 prototype car. They provided access to a layup room, gave pointers during the layup process, and cured our prepreg monocoque in their autoclave.

Front Panel Express was instrumental in helping us create an enclosure for the electronics in our new data acquisition system. Their expertise in accurately machining custom front panels and enclosures was invaluable and they did a stellar job producing a beautiful enclosure for us. Their software was easy to learn and our enclosure came our perfect on the first try.

Xilinx makes Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), which are essentially chips with reconfigurable hardware. Our new data acqusition system used Xilinx FPGAs to rapidly prototype, design, and build the necessary embedded systems electronics and software that controled all the DAQ's sensors, logged collected data to flash storage, and transmitted it to us wirelessly.

Advanced Circuits is a custom printed circuit board (PCB) fabrication house in Colorado. Not only did they do a stellar job fabricating the custom PCB for our new data acquisition system, but their free PCB design software PCB Artist was super easy to use and had us up and running in no time. Their precise fab process had our PCB manufactured exactly to spec on the first try and ahead of schedule.

Linson Signs is a San Luis Obispo based sign company specializing in banners, comercial signs, digital printing, electric signs, and race car graphics. Owner Frank Linson has been in the sign business since 1964 when he began by hand painting signs. Linson signs provided all of the custom cut decals for the 2006-2009 prototype car.
